If you ever thought about studying abroad, but are unsure of which country you want to study in; look no further! Sweden is calling and it’s bound to be the greatest choice and experience of your life.
Here are 9 reasons why you need to pack your bags and get your Master’s degree in Sweden.
1. It’s Pretty Much The Most Beautiful Place In The World
Sweden prioritizes protecting the environment, and the breathtaking scenery is a direct reflection of the country’s environmental protection policies. In Sweden, you can find expansive forests, amazing beaches, and snowcapped mountains. The country is home to 29 national parks, which are perfect for all your favorite outdoor activities including fishing, skiing, hiking, mountain biking, and swimming. Also, you may have a chance to see the Northern Lights! Think of all the envy-worthy pictures you can take for your Instagram!
2. Everyone Speaks English
If you don’t know any Swedish, have no fear! You don’t need to learn the local language to study in Sweden. Everyone in Sweden learns English from a young age and most people are more than happy to speak English with you. It consistently ranks as one of the top countries in the world for English proficiency. Master’s studies are hard enough and you won’t need to face any additional language hurdles in Sweden.
3. The Universities Are Fabulous
Don’t you want the best education possible? In Sweden, you will get that. The Swedish higher education system is considered one of the best in the world, above other English speaking countries like the UK and Australia. You will be encouraged to not just absorb knowledge but also contribute and actively participate in your education. The top degrees in Sweden offer a hands-on approach while striving to address the world’s most complex and important problems. You’ll be able to jump right into your career applying what you learn in Sweden to important issues back in the U.S. like climate change, equality, technology, and human rights.
4. You Can Work While Studying
Seriously, this point alone is enough to make me sign up to study abroad in Sweden. As a Master’s student it’s rare that you would want to put your career on hold. It is practically unheard of to be able to work while studying abroad. Most countries don’t allow you to easily work while studying, but Sweden does! Students are allowed to work if they have a residence permit for studies. This means that if you are concerned about the costs associated with studying in a foreign country (Sweden is actually pretty affordable by the way), you can offset these costs by working while studying. There is no limit to the number of hours you can work while studying, (although studying should, of course, be your number one priority)!
5. Creativity is Encouraged
Swedish culture encourages creativity and freedom of thinking. Your ideas and opinions are always welcome there. If you have ever thought about being an entrepreneur, Sweden is the perfect country to further your knowledge and make your dream innovations come to life. It’s a place to think outside the box and push your innovative limits.
6. You Can Be You
This one is important. If you’re looking for a nonjudgmental society, look no further. Swedes are known for their tolerance of all people regardless of gender, skin color, beliefs, sexual orientation, or background. Not only is this a great aspect of their feminine culture, it is also a vital asset to your education. Your teamwork skills will be strengthened by learning to work with a variety of different people in an environment where the respectful exchange of ideas is valued.
7. The Public Transportation Is On-Point
You don’t need to worry about how you will get around in Sweden. The public transportation is so good that you can depend on it completely for all your day to day transportation needs. There is also great public transportation for longer journeys as well. With all those great outdoor activities and fun things to do in your free time, you won’t need to stress about getting around.
8. Multi-National Companies Want You!
A lot of the degree programs in Sweden include participating in an internship. Sweden is a great country for this because several well-known global companies call the country home. In fact, Sweden has the highest number of multinationals per-capita of any country in the world! Just a few of the great companies that are headquartered in Sweden are Ikea, H&M, Ericsson, and Volvo. If you get an internship at any of the fabulous companies in Sweden there is always a chance they will be happy to hire you and the connections you make will last a lifetime. You never know where these experiences could lead.
9. It’s Easy To Travel Throughout Europe
On the weekends and during vacations you are not limited to exploring just in Sweden. It is so easy to travel all over Europe from Sweden. There are bus options, trains, and flights. I just checked out flight prices to give you a better idea of the cost you can expect and I found flights for under $100 roundtrip from Stockholm to London, Krakow, Berlin, Munich, Helsinki, Paris, Budapest, Amsterdam, and more! At that price, you can constantly explore new places!
